What is Pilates?

Pilates, pronounced "PUH'lah'TEEZ" is a method of exercise that was developed in the 1920's by Joseph H. Pilates. It combines simultaneous stretching and strengthening that is non to low impact exercise. Primary focus in Pilates is on the abdomen, lower back and buttocks which comprise the core (power center)of the body. The system is designed to increase flexibility, build strength, and tone muscles. Emphasis is on body awareness, controlling body alignment, and correct breathing through concentration to promote efficient movement

What are the benefits of Pilates?

With regular committed workouts some of the benefits you can expect to gain are: improved posture, increased muscle tone, longer leaner muscles, stronger abdominal and spinal muscles, increased flexibility, improved coordination and body awareness, and it promotes recover from strain or injury.

What classes do you offer?

We offer private, semi-private and group sessions on the Pilates apparatus. Group sessions on the apparatus are for maximum of 5 people. We also offer group mat, cycling, yogalates, and cycle/weight classes to a maximum of 9 people.

What should I wear to class?

It is important to be dressed comfortable enough to move freely. Therefore, any variety of workout clothes are appropriate including loose fitting (not baggy) sweatshirts etc. Shoes are not required as Pilates exercises are done in socks or barefoot. Outdoor shoes ARE NOT PERMITTED in the cycling classes. It is also a good ideal to bring a bottle of water for hydration.

What age group is Pilates for?

Pilates can be beneficial for virtually all ages, fitness levels, and body conditions. It can be adapted, modified, and customized for individual needs. Our clients range in age from early teens to seventies.

How can I get started?

You can start your training privately, semi-privately, or in a small group. We have small groups starting all the time - simply leave your contact information with the class, day, and time you are available and we will start a wait list to create a class around you.
